[#45] - Rethinking my designs, Leading the eye and Victor Dufayard.

Evening People!

This week has been a nice one (and this blog is packed now looking at it), the weather is picking up and it's getting super nice and sunny out, which is nice even when sitting inside and doing personal work (which makes it sound bad but I really enjoy it :D). Also what really helps is that things are falling into place at work which has been taking a while before we could get to this stage.

Importantly I'm also making more time to go out in the weekends, which I wasn't doing before, so this week we are going to the Zoo! :D
Anyways, let's dig into some of the other things I have done this week.

Feedback sessions

As you probaby all know by now I also started structuring the feedback that I give towards one channel, which makes it easier for me to keep up with it and also allows others to see progress on people as well, still all in early stages though!
This structure allows me to be really focused on giving the best feedback an really taking my time, which leads me to Marta (one of the people that I give feedback currently). She has been doing a terrific job pushing herself with her latest environment, so this is my little shout-out to her current work in progress as well, which can be seen below.


Weekly blogs compilation

In other news I have also released an updated version for the weekly tips compilation, which holds all my tips and tricks in one handy format, so no digging through all my previous blog posts (currently over 30 and growing each week) so if you are interested in this, please head over to Patreon and have looksie!


So when doing all the previous sketches shown in last week's blog, I talked about the possibility of the pieces feeling to industrial and not really making sense for the style that I was going for. This became really obvious to me when I modelled them in Blender (seen below), after this I decided to go back to the drawing board, look at all the reference I gathered and re-evaluate the choices that I made in concepting these pieces.

But the thing is, I do still like these pieces (as a basic kit for now, it will need additional pieces) so I will keep them in a separate file, maybe reuse them later!

After this little exercise I decided to cleanup the scene a little bit and look at the pieces that I had already made and go back to focusing on the MVP of the set (Minimal Viable Product), and another take away from the other set is that I really like the decals and hints to different colours, so that is something that I will be trying to implement more in the future going forward!

Looking forward to doing some more work on this set in the coming days, and really flesh out the base set, including corners and things that you would expect in a place like this, so doors to elevators, staircases, corner pieces, angles to give it that natural feel, etc...

This is an older one from Victor but that doesn't mean anything!

I just really like the world building these images do and still leave enough room for the imagination because they don't hit you over the head with a story it's more about the larger picture told in all the smaller details.
The colour contrast and stylization of the shapes and effects is another thing that really makes this pieces stand out from his more recent work, although also amazing in quality I feel this piece was really saying something.
