[#76] Additional Building Blocks & Texel Density

November 6, 2019
Evening People!

This week was nice and chill compared to some of the other past weeks, I got the entire weekend off to spend with some of my family coming over and exploring some parts of Berlin. I've also found some great bookstores that a really need to go back to and spend some time digging out some books for my commute.

Other than that I have had some time to think and reflect about what I have been spending my time on recently and have come to some sort of realisation that I have been spending way too much time on things other than art and spend too much time on iterating on things that never mean anything in the end and this was because I was missing doing pure art for longer periods. Which just led me to procrastinate on doing the other stuff and then in the end never getting to doing the art either :D (I know sounds weird! ) So I'm deciding to cut down on some of that time and make some more time to work on art again.

So sometimes it's good to have some time to reflect!

New "Polygon" Tier on Patreon

It's not all bad though, I finally got to adding a new tier to my Patreon which I will be filling up with all the tutorials and source files that go along with them!

Blog Compilation for November Online!

The November compilation containing all the new blogposts from this month is now available online for all my Patreons, you can get access yourself here:

This month's version comes with a new addition of always being able to go back to the Table of contents from any page in the compilation, further expanding on the ease of use of the PDF document itself.

Building additional wall sections

This week I spend some more time adding some additional wall sections for the project that I'm working on, starting with some different sections with variable heights and their connections going between them. Additionally to this I also spend some time on creating the first batch of corners.

Enjoy these pictures with rough WIP quality, quickly done lightmaps and shitty optimisation that comes with it! :D
(but you get the idea)

Connor Sheehan

As you have maybe noticed by this point, I like more abstract stuff that leaves my mind to wonder when looking at it, and that is exactly what happened with this piece that Connor Sheehan did. This really captured my attention because of the use of strong color contrast between all the monotone grey tones and the orange light pulling you in. Another thing that really stood out with this one was the types of structures being used, the game being something weirdly organic and futuristic, where all the other buildings are more your typical houses making for this familiar versus unfamiliar feeling, making you wonder how this all came to be.

Really awesome work Connor, it was inspiring diving into your other pieces to, so I highly recommend you check out his other pieces too.

All right people! That's going to do it for me for this week, I'll catch you in the next one!If you like these posts or if the tips are useful consider supporting me on Patreon and join all these other lovely people in getting access to the full Tips and Tricks compilation on: https://patreon.com/Beyondextent
