DAILY ROUTINE

Your day to day consists of creating high quality textures and materials using procedural texture creation tools like Substance Designer, Quixel mixer or Substance Alchemist. You might also be responsible for the creation of more unique textures as well if required.

While doing so you are collaborating closely with other environment artists to make sure these materials and textures are useable for their work. You might also be asked to collaborate with other materials and technical artists to improve the quality of these materials as well as the tools that are being used to provide them to the team.

Other then your regular standups to update the team on your progress, you will also be in other meeting to discuss how to push the visual fidelity of your materials and textures as well as keep track of how they align with the art direction for the game.

WHO YOU COLLABORATE WITH

You will closely collaborate will be other material artists, your leads and art directors. Getting feedback in regular meetings from your peers and art directors is going to be a very common thing.

Environment/Character artists will also be close collaborations as you will be supporting them in the creating of their base textures that they will use for their assets.

The same will occasionally happen with Level Design and Technical Art as well, making sure that the technical aspects of the game assets you’ve created fulfil the needs of the project.Lastly, you may be working with Lighting and VFX artists on certain occasions to implement effects of lighting on assets when required.
